Shoulder Seams

  1. Reinforce the shoulder seams of the front piece with bias-cut fusible stay tape. Stitch the shoulder seams from the front piece side. Press the seam allowances toward the back.

Attaching the Sleeves

  1. Place the sleeve against the armhole (right sides together). Align the sleeve cap and armhole edges, carefully pinning and matching the notches. If necessary, baste the sleeve into the armhole. Stitch from the sleeve side on an overlocker.

Sleeve and Hem Preparation

  1. Overlock the lower edges of the sleeves and the hem of the garment from the right side. Baste, fold up the sleeve hem along the basting line, and press.

Side and Sleeve Seams

  1. Fold the garment with right sides together. Align the side seams and sleeve edges, and pin in place. Stitch the sleeve and side seams on an overlocker from the front piece side. Press the seam allowances toward the sleeve.

Hemming

  1. Pin the hem of the sleeve and the garment, baste in place. Hand-stitch the hem. Tip: When using thin and stretchy knit fabrics, the garment hem and sleeve hem should be finished on a flatlock machine.

  1. Stitch the side edges of the stand on a straight-stitch machine, right sides together, aligning the edges.

Basting the Stand

  1. Pin the lower edges of the stand, aligning the edges, and baste. It is important to match the seams.

  1. Press open the stitching seam. Fold the stand in half.

Final Pressing

  1. Press the seam allowances of the stand collar into the garment. Perform the final wet-heat pressing of the garment.

Attaching the Stand Collar

  1. Turn the garment to the wrong side. Insert the stand into the neckline, right sides together. Align the stand seam with the notch on the left side of the back neckline. Match the remaining neckline notches and the right shoulder seam with the stand notches, and pin in place. Align the edges and stitch the stand into the neckline on an overlocker from the stand side.
