Collar stand assembly
The technique of joining, stitching, and topstitching the inner and outer collar stands.
Where it is used
Stitch Collar Attachment Seam
p. 11- On the right side, stitch along the groove of the collar attachment seam. On the wrong side, check that the collar edge is caught in the stitching all the way along the seam.

Checking Collar Corner Insertion
p. 7- Turn the collar to the right side, check the quality of the collar corner insertion.

Sewing the collar to the neckline
p. 11- Sew the outer edge of the stand to the neckline. Allow a 1.0 cm seam.

Basting the inner collar
p. 16- Baste the pressed inner edge of the collar stand over the neckline seam, overlapping the stitching by 2 mm.

Topstitching the collar stand
p. 17- Topstitch the pressed inner edge of the collar onto the collar seam at the neckline, sewing from the right side and following the groove of the seam. On the wrong side, make sure the stitch secures the pressed seam allowance of the collar.

Pinning Shoulder and Collar Seams
p. 6- Pin together the shoulder seams and the side seams of the stand, making sure the right sides are facing each other.

Topstitching Collar Stand
p. 11- Topstitch along the upper edge of the self-cut stand using a flatlock machine. Allowance: 1.2 cm. Use a hook to pull the threads inside the pad seam from the wrong side.

Pressing and Folding the Stand
p. 4- Press open the stitching seam. Fold the stand in half.

Stitching the Stand Collar
p. 4- Stitch the side edges of the stand on a straight-stitch machine, right sides together, aligning the edges.

Attaching the Stand Collar
p. 5- Turn the garment to the wrong side. Insert the stand into the neckline, right sides together. Align the stand seam with the notch on the left side of the back neckline. Match the remaining neckline notches and the right shoulder seam with the stand notches, and pin in place. Align the edges and stitch the stand into the neckline on an overlocker from the stand side.

3. Attaching the Lower Stand
p. 4- Attach the lower stand to the facing on the overlocker, simultaneously overlocking the lower edge of the inner stand. Stitch from the facing side. Press the seam allowances toward the facing.

6. Attaching the Upper Stand
p. 5- Position the upper stand with the right side against the right side of the garment. Pin or baste, aligning the notches. Stitch with an overlock. Press the seam allowances toward the stand.
