Flatlock hemming
Finishing the bottom hem and collar edge using a flatlock machine to maintain stretch.
Where it is used
Finishing Bottom Hem
p. 6- Hem the bottom of the T-shirt using a coverstitch machine, or a twin needle if you prefer. As you sew, make sure the basting line stays centered between the two needles. Press to finish.
24. Stitch hems
p. 11- Use a flatlock machine to stitch along the hem of the sleeve and the bottom of the dress. If you don’t have a flatlock machine, finish the raw edges and then stitch using a regular sewing machine. Hide the thread tails on the wrong side with a hook.

p. 6- Finish the armhole edges using a flat seam machine and a special edge binder.

p. 6- Bind the top edge using a flatlock machine with a binding attachment, starting from the shoulder seam on the back and finishing at the shoulder seam on the front.

p. 7- Sew a line along the bottom edge of the top using a flatlock machine. Pull the thread ends to the inside and tuck them into the seam using a knit hook.
Step 23: Stitching hem
p. 9- Stitch the hem of the top using a flatlock machine. Turn the thread ends to the wrong side and tuck them into the seam allowance using a crochet hook.
Hemming the Dress
p. 13- Stitch a decorative seam along the bottom of the sundress using a flat seam machine. Allowance is 2.5 cm. Conceal the threads in the seam lining on the reverse side using a hook.
Stitch Hems
p. 11- Use a flatlock machine to stitch along the hem of the sleeve and the bottom of the dress. If you don’t have a flatlock machine, finish the raw edges and then stitch using a regular sewing machine. Hide the thread tails on the wrong side with a hook.
Hemming
p. 3- Pin the hem of the sleeve and the garment, baste in place. Hand-stitch the hem. Tip: When using thin and stretchy knit fabrics, the garment hem and sleeve hem should be finished on a flatlock machine.
Hemming
p. 10- Stitch along the bottom hem of the T-shirt using a coverstitch machine. If you don’t have a coverstitch machine, you can serge the raw edges first and then sew the hem on a regular sewing machine. Pull the thread tails on the wrong side through the coverstitch using a hook.
Step 27
p. 17- Fold the cuffs right sides together and stitch along the short edge on the straight-stitch machine. Seam allowance is 0.7 cm. Use backstitches at the beginning and end of the stitching line.
