Placket construction
The technique of preparing, stitching, layering, and finishing the front button placket.
Where it is used
4-5. Prepare the plackets
p. 4- Finish one of the vertical edges on the plackets. Press the plackets in half lengthwise.

6. Mark reference points
p. 4- Mark reference points on the front piece. Chalk the stitching line for attaching the placket onto the front. Seam allowance is 1.0 cm for the vertical lines and the lower horizontal edge. Where the lines meet are your placket's reference points.

7. Stitch plackets to front
p. 5- Stitch the unfinished edges of the plackets to the vertical edges of the front piece, making sure to sew precisely up to the guide marks. Place the placket face side down onto the right side of the front.

10. Lay out and layer plackets
p. 5- Lay out the placket, smoothing out all allowances, aligning every edge, pin the lower edge, and layer the top placket over the bottom one, making sure it matches the edge of the front panel.

8. Press placket seam allowances
p. 5- Press the seam allowance of the plackets onto the placket itself.

13. Press lower seam
p. 6- Press the lower seam of the placket flat.

11. Sew lower edge of placket
p. 6- Sew the lower edge of the placket, making sure to align the placket’s reference points. Seam allowance: 1.0 cm.

17.1.3 - 17.1.4. Turn and press collar
p. 8- Turn the placket corners right side out. Press the lower edge of the upper collar upward.

17.2.7 - 17.2.8. Stitch lower placket and press
p. 9- Stitch the vertical serged edge of the lower placket from the right side, making sure to sew directly in the groove of the upper placket seam. Press the attached collar.

Serging Placket Edges
p. 4- Serge/Overlock one of the long raw edges on the placket pieces. Note that, when finished, the serged edges on the plackets must be a mirror image of each other. Perform the serging stitch on the right side of the piece. Press lightly (or finger-press).

Pressing Plackets
p. 4- Press the placket pieces in half, wrong sides together, aligning with the center control points of the piece.

Marking Front and Plackets
p. 4- On the right side of the front piece, mark the following: measure 0.7 cm from the placket attachment edges along the bottom raw edge and mark the lines. On the wrong side of the plackets, mark the bottom raw edge. From the bottom raw edge, measure 3 cm, and from the vertical raw edges (the edges that are not serged), measure 0.7 cm.
