Side and sleeve seams
Continuous seams sewn with a serger to close the sides of the sweater and the sleeves in one step.
Where it is used
Sleeve Side Seam
p. 2- Fold the sleeve with the right sides together, align and pin the side seam, making sure the bottom edges match up. Use a serger set for four-thread stitching to sew the seam. Stitch from the sleeve side that connects to the back. Leave serger thread tails at the bottom edge.

Sewing Raglan Sleeves
p. 3- Sew the sleeves using a serger. Stitch from the sleeve side.

6.2. Stitching sleeve edges
p. 7- Stitch and serge the upper and lower sleeve edges at the same time on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.

6.9. Stitching cuffs to sleeve
p. 9- Stitch the cuffs to the sleeve hem and serge at the same time on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm. Using a hook, tuck the serger tails into the coverstitch from the wrong side.

8. Sewing sleeves to armhole
p. 10- Sew the sleeves to the armhole and finish the edge at the same time on a 4-thread serger. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.

12.6. Stitching neckband
p. 14- Stitch the neckband on and, at the same time, serge it with a 4-thread overlock along the neckline edges of the front, sleeve, and back. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm. Using a hook, tuck the serger thread tails into the cover stitch on the wrong side.

3. Sew lower sleeve seam
p. 4- Sew the lower sleeve seam, serge, and press.

Sew Sleeves
p. 7- Sew the sleeves with an overlocker. Stitch from the sweater side.

Finish Lower Edges
p. 7- Finish the lower edge of the sweater and sleeves with a serger. Stitch from the right side. Press to set the seam.

Assemble Upper Side Seams
p. 3- Place the upper front and back pieces right sides together, matching the side seams. Pin in place. Stitch on the machine using a 1 cm (3/8 in) seam allowance, backstitching at the ends. Serge/overlock the seam allowances, sewing from the back piece side. Press the seam flat, then press the seam allowances toward the front. Press the side-seam allowances on the upper and lower sections in opposite directions to reduce bulk along the armhole edge.

Attaching Sleeves and Pinning Side Seams
p. 7- Align the top notch of the sleeve cap with the cardigan's shoulder seam and pin. Pin the sleeve into the armhole all the way around, easing in the fabric slightly. Finish the edges with a serger and press the seam allowances to one side. Then, with right sides together, align and pin the front and back pieces evenly along the side edges, including the pockets.

Sewing Side Seams and Pockets
p. 8- Sew the sleeve edges and cardigan side seams together using the machine in a single continuous stitch, forming the pockets as part of the same side seam. Press the seam allowances toward the front piece, in the direction the pockets face.
