Step 5: Sleeve

p. 10
  1. Attention! The sleeve is gathered only in the area between the two specified points. This area is gathered up to 16 cm. On the back - up to 7.5 cm, on the front up to 8 cm. There is no gathering at the bottom of the sleeve cap! After gathering, make sure that it is uniform. Join the sleeve along the side seam. Connect the cuffs together, not forgetting the buttons and seam finishing. Turn the cuff inside out and iron it, then add the fittings. Don't forget to finish the sleeve opening with bias binding!

Basting cuff and gathering sleeve

p. 12
  1. Begin by folding the cuff in half lengthwise, with the wrong side facing in. Pin it together, matching the notches and seam line. Next, sew a temporary straight stitch about 2–3 mm from the edge, making sure the edges stay even. As you sew, gently stretch the cuff if needed and remove the pins as you go. When finished, press the cuff carefully—avoid stretching or misshaping it. Sew two parallel lines on the machine, first setting your stitch length to 5mm. Leave long thread tails at the ends—you'll use these to gather the fabric. Pull the threads to gather the fabric, spreading the gathers evenly around. Once gathered, the lower edge should measure 1.5 times the length of the cuff.
