Pocket construction
The steps to assemble side pockets, including pocket facings, pocket bags, and topstitching.
Where it is used
Prepare Bottom Edges
p. 2- Finish the bottom edge on the upper and lower front and back pieces. Turn the bottom edge to the wrong side by 1 cm and press, then fold it over another 1 cm and press again. To make this step easier, you can sew a guide stitch 1 cm up from the bottom edge. Press the first 1 cm fold along that stitch, then press again for the second 1 cm fold. You can remove the guide stitch or leave it in.
Attaching Pockets to Front and Back Panels
p. 4- With right sides together, align the front panel and pocket pieces, matching their short edges to the sides of the cardigan front. Pin together, aligning the notches, and sew the pockets onto the front panels. Repeat this process to align and sew the pockets onto the back panel pieces.
Sewing Side Seams and Pockets
p. 8- Sew the sleeve edges and cardigan side seams together using the machine in a single continuous stitch, forming the pockets as part of the same side seam. Press the seam allowances toward the front piece, in the direction the pockets face.
Serging Pockets and Pressing Side Seams
p. 10- Serge around the pocket without silicone tape, then place the silicone tape underneath once back at the side edge and serge it together. Press the finished edges toward the front panels (in the direction the pocket faces) and give the pocket a nice press.

p. 3- Finish the pocket opening with pocket lining, creating small steps at each end. Allow for a 1.0 cm seam.

p. 4- Pin the lower pocket bag edge to the upper one, with right sides together, aligning the edges.

p. 4- Topstitch the seam allowance at the pocket opening, sewing 0.1 cm from the pocket lining side.

p. 4- Clip the seam allowance at the corners of the facing.

p. 5- Stitch the curved edge of the pocket bags together. Allow a seam of 1.0 cm.

p. 5- Press the pocket with an iron.

p. 5- Secure the pocket seam allowances along the side and top edges.
Step 7: Pinning lining side seams
p. 5- Pin the side edges of the lining together, matching the edges with right sides facing each other.
