Sleeve setting
The process of easing and sewing the sleeve cap into the armhole smoothly without puckers.
Where it is used
Gathering Sleeve Cap
p. 13- Pull the gathering threads on the sleeve cap to match the length specified on the pattern, then tie off the threads.
Setting Sleeves into Armholes
p. 13- Pin sleeves to armholes right sides together, matching notches. Sew with a 1 cm seam allowance. Finish the allowances with a serger and press toward the sleeve.
6.1. Sleeve Prep - Pinning
p. 6- Pin the sleeve's upper and lower edges together, matching the edges with right sides facing each other.
6.3. Pressing sleeve seams
p. 7- Press the seam allowances from stitching the sleeve edges toward the back of the sleeve.
Pressing Shoulder Seams
p. 3- Press the seam, then press the seam allowances toward the front.
Pressing Sleeve Seams
p. 9- Press the seam, then press the allowances toward the sleeve.
Attach Sleeves
p. 12- Pin the sleeves into the armholes, right sides together; do not mix up the right and left sleeves, and align the control points. The control point on the sleeve cap relates to the front. Stitch the sleeves with the overlocker, placing the stitching on the jumper side. Press lightly, then press the seam allowances towards the jumper body.
Fitting and Hem Preparation
p. 13- Perform a fitting (try-on) and determine the final length of the jumper and the sleeves. Serge/Overlock the bottom raw edge of the jumper and sleeves, placing the stitching on the right side of the piece. Press lightly. Refresh the pressing of the hem allowances (4 cm).
14. Press sleeve seams
p. 7- Press the armhole seam allowance toward the sleeve.
Press Sleeve Hem
p. 10- Press the sleeve hem allowance up by 3 cm.
Sleeve Assembly
p. 13- Press the seam allowances of the sleeve toward the back.
Attaching Sleeves
p. 14- Press the sleeve seam allowance toward the sleeve and iron it flat.
