Elastic
A stretchable material, typically a band or cord, used in garments to create gathering, provide a snug fit, or add flexibility.
Where it is used
Step 18
p. 7- Sew the ends of the waistband together, matching the notches, and leave a 2 cm opening to insert the elastic.
Step 22
p. 8- Insert the elastic into the waistband, making sure the length matches your size.
2. Preparing the Back: Step 2.7
p. 17- Insert the elastic, 0.7 cm wide, into the stitched seam allowance of the central back piece. The length of the elastic is specified on the pattern for the central back piece. Secure the elastic along the side seams.
Inserting the Elastic
p. 7- Pre-shrink the elastic. Thread the elastic through the waistband. The required length is specified on the paper pattern.
Inserting Elastic
p. 11- Steam and shrink the elastic band, which should be 4 cm wide. Cut the elastic to the required length. Thread the elastic through the waistband, leaving a short tail (0.5 cm) sticking out past the seam on the center waistband piece. Pin the elastic in place right along the seam. The long section of elastic should rest inside the waistband.
Distributing Elastic
p. 12- Smooth out the elastic inside the waistband. Secure with pins.
Securing Second Elastic End
p. 12- Thread the elastic through to the second seam on the waistband’s center piece. Leave a short tail of elastic (about 0.5 cm) so it extends past the seam on the center waistband piece. Pin it right at the seam. Try on the garment to check the fit. Secure the elastic with the sewing machine. Stitch directly along the seam. Add a backstitch at both the beginning and end of the line. Press with an iron.
Assembling the waistband - Step 21
p. 12- Sew the ends of the waistband together, leaving two openings for inserting the elastic, following the placement marks on the waistband pattern. Seam allowance: 1.0 cm.

p. 13- Sew the ends of the elastic together, overlapping them by 1.0 cm.-Make sure the elastic doesn’t twist while joining.-

p. 14- Join the ends of the elastic, overlapping them by 1.0 cm. Make sure the elastic doesn’t twist.
Assembling the waistband - Step 36
p. 14- Evenly distribute the elastic inside the waistband and secure it with pins.
