Facing
Fabric pieces cut to match the shape of the garment edge (like a V-neckline), used to cleanly finish the raw edges.
Where it is used
Overlapping Front Bodice Pieces
p. 5- Place the right front piece over the left front piece, aligning them at the bottom edge. Pin them together using the reference points.
Preparing the Facing
p. 3- Fold the facing in half and press it lightly. If the material is thin, the facing can be interfaced completely or partially with fusible material if necessary.
Interfacing Facings
p. 1- Completely interface the following pieces: Front facing – 1 piece, Back facing – 1 piece. It’s best to roughly cut the pieces for interfacing—lay out the listed pieces on your fabric, mark the area with tailor’s chalk, apply the interfacing to the marked section, and then cut out each piece using your paper pattern.
Pinning Front Pieces
p. 2- Place the center and side front pieces right sides together, aligning them along the center edge. Pin from the center piece side.
Pinning Facings
p. 8- Place the facings for the front and back pieces right sides together, matching the trimmed edge at the marked notch. Pin in place.
Sewing Facing Short Edges
p. 9- Sew the short edges with a 0.5 cm seam allowance.
Mark Front and Plackets
p. 4- On the right side of the front piece, mark the following: measure 0.7 cm from the placket attachment edges along the bottom raw edge and mark the lines. On the wrong side of the plackets, mark the bottom raw edge. From the bottom raw edge, measure 3 cm, and from the vertical raw edges (the edges that are not serged), measure 0.7 cm.
Pin Plackets to Front
p. 4- Place the placket pieces onto the front piece, right sides together, and pin. At the bottom point of the slash (opening), precisely align the markings made on the front piece and the plackets – the intersection of the marking lines on the front and the plackets must be exactly matched. Pin in place.
Fold Collar
p. 5- Fold the collar piece right sides together, aligning the short edges of the outer collar (collar point edges), and pin.
Clip Front Corners
p. 9- On the front piece, make diagonal clips (notches), stopping 0.1 cm short of the end of the placket attachment stitching lines.
Pin Bottom of Plackets
p. 10- Turn the front piece upwards. Align the bottom edges of the plackets, and pin. Direct the placket attachment seam allowances onto the plackets.
Step 1: Preparing the Pieces - Cutting the Fabric
p. 2- Lay out the patterns on the main and lining fabric, respecting the grainline direction. Cut out all pieces, adding seam allowances of 1.5 cm and a 4 cm hem allowance.
