Preparing and attaching back and armhole facings to finish raw edges.

2. Pressing the hem (Back)

  1. Press the hem allowance along the bottom edge of the back panel by 2.5 cm, turning it toward the wrong side.

Attaching the Facing

  1. Pin or baste the facing according to the diagram. Place a temporary machine stitch with the maximum stitch length. Remove the pins. Press lightly.

Press Back Seam Allowances

  1. Press the seam allowances to the wrong side on any back piece (overlock stitching facing up on the right side). At the slit area, press the 0.7 cm seam allowances open in opposite directions.

11. Align lining with back

  1. Align the lining face-to-face with the back. Sew the lining along the top edge of the back. Turn it right side out, adjust the straps, and topstitch the allowances on the lining 1-2mm. Press. If needed, secure the straps.

14. Prepare top edge casing

  1. Along the top edge of the bodice (similar to the sleeve casing treatment), baste/press the allowance to the wrong side 5-7mm. Then fold the casing on the wrong side along the notches and tack/topstitch. Press.

Finishing the Placket Lower Edges

  1. Press the seam allowances to the inside of the facing. Fold the facing, aligning the free seam allowances at the bottom edge right sides together, wrapping the allowance inside, and sew the lower edge of the placket.

Interfacing Facings

  1. Completely interface the following pieces: Front facing – 1 piece, Back facing – 1 piece. It’s best to roughly cut the pieces for interfacing—lay out the listed pieces on your fabric, mark the area with tailor’s chalk, apply the interfacing to the marked section, and then cut out each piece using your paper pattern.

Pinning Facings

  1. Place the facings for the front and back pieces right sides together, matching the trimmed edge at the marked notch. Pin in place.
