Hand basting

Temporary hand stitching used to hold hems or seams in place before machine sewing.

Basting the Sleeve Hem

  1. Fold the lower edge of the sleeve to the wrong side, aligning it with the marked line, and press it flat. Hand baste the sleeve hem allowance, keeping your stitches about 0.1–0.2 cm from the edge.

Basting Bottom Hem

  1. Fold the bottom edge to the inside along the marked line and press it. Secure the allowance with hand stitches, keeping 0.1–0.2 cm away from the edge.
