Notching
Making small cuts in curved seam allowances to allow them to lay flat when turned right side out.
Where it is used
Turn and Shape Corners
p. 8- Fold the hem allowance to the wrong side, then use a thick needle to gently shape the corners. Press the corners flat.
Cutting and Marking
p. 3- Cut strictly following the direction of the knit columns (or nap). Mark all notches on the pattern pieces using tailor's chalk or temporary basting threads to ensure even alignment during assembly.
Cutting corner notches
p. 13- Cut notches at a 45-degree angle, stopping just before the guide marks. 1 mm away from the marks.
Notching Neckline Allowance
p. 11- Trim, stopping 3-4 cm short of the center back (as shown in the photo). Place clips/notches on the allowance, stopping 0.2 cm short of the stitching line.
Pinning Side Edges
p. 10- Pin the side edges together, aligning the edges and notches, with right sides facing each other.
Cut out the fabric pieces
p. 5- Cut out the fabric pieces using the pattern. Mark all notches by making 3mm cuts through all fabric layers at the seam allowances, keeping everything symmetrical.
Trimming and Notching Front Edges
p. 10- Trim the seam allowance at the corners of the front edges. Make small notches along the neckline seam allowances, stopping 1-2mm before the stitched seam.
