Overlock seam
A stretchy, durable seam created using a serger, perfect for knit fabrics.
Where it is used
Stitching the side seams
p. 3- Stitch and serge the side seams of the front and back at the same time on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
4. Stitching side seams
p. 6- Stitch and serge the side seams at the same time on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
6.2. Stitching sleeve edges
p. 7- Stitch and serge the upper and lower sleeve edges at the same time on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
Sew Back Center Seam
p. 3- Place the back pieces right sides together, align at the center edge, and pin to match up the guide points. Insert the pins parallel to the center edge, about 3–4 cm apart. This way, the pins won’t get caught by the serger blade. Sew the seam on the overlocker set to a 4-thread stitch. Stop about 2 cm before the start of the slit, as shown. Thread the overlock chain into a knit needle or hook and tuck it neatly between the layers of fabric. With your sewing machine, finish the seam exactly at the marked starting point of the slit, as shown in the photo.
Sew Side Seams
p. 7- Fold the dress with the right side facing in. Pin along the side edges, matching up the notches. Sew with an overlock machine, using a 0.7 cm seam allowance. Stitch from the back side. Press with an iron, then fold the seam allowances toward the front. Hide the ends of the overlock stitch between the layers of knit fabric using a knit needle or crochet hook.
6. Stitch side seams
p. 3- Stitch and serge the side seams of the front and back at the same time on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
Sewing Inseams
p. 3- Sew together on the overlock machine, stitching from the front piece side. Press the seams, then press the seam allowances toward the back piece.
Sewing the side seams
p. 6- Sew and finish the side edges at the same time using a 4-thread overlock. Allowance: 0.7 cm.
Sewing sleeves to armholes
p. 9- Sew and serge the sleeves into the armholes of the front and back pieces at the same time using a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
Step 8: Stitching side seams
p. 5- Sew and serge the side seams of the front and back pieces together at the same time, using a 4-thread overlocker. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
Step 17: Stitching armholes and straps
p. 8- Using a four-thread overlock machine, sew the upper pieces with the lining. Start at the seam joining the strap edges, then continue along the armhole edge, the top edge of the back, and finish at the side seam. Stop there.
13. Sewing inseams
p. 12- Stitch and, at the same time, serge the inseam edges on a 4-thread overlock. Seam allowance: 0.7 cm.
