Overlock stitch

An edge-finishing stitch that prevents fabric edges from fraying.

  1. Serge/Overlock the raw edges of the armhole and neckline, and the edge of the front opening (placket/facing). You can insert silicone tape into the overlock stitching, which can be basted or stitched on the machine with a temporary stitch beforehand. Alternatively, you can use a special overlocker foot.

Overlocking Collar Neckline

  1. If the result is satisfactory, turn the collar back to the wrong side and stitch the collar with the overlocker.

Cuffs and waistbands

  1. Secure the cuff in place with pins, then sew an overlock stitch BETWEEN the lines used to tighten the sleeve. Stitch along the cuff side.
