Sleeve hem
The finished lower edge of the sleeve, pressed at 1.0 cm and folded at 4.0 cm.
Where it is used
Pressing Sleeve Hem Folds
p. 12- Fold the lower edge of the sleeve to the inside by 1 cm and press; fold over another 1 cm and press again to pre-crease the hem casing.
Basting Sleeve Hem Casing
p. 12- Re-fold the sleeve hem along the pressed lines (1+1 cm), pin, and baste in place.
Stitching Sleeve Hem Casing
p. 12- Topstitch the casing from the right side, sewing 0.1-0.2 cm from the inner folded edge. Leave a 2 cm opening near the side seam to insert the elastic.
Inserting Sleeve Elastic
p. 13- Thread the measured elastic through the casing opening. Overlap the ends by 0.5 cm and stitch them securely together to form a loop.
Sleeve Hem Preparation
p. 1- On the wrong side of the sleeve, measure 3 cm up from the hem line and mark a guideline.
Basting the Sleeve Hem
p. 1- Fold the lower edge of the sleeve to the wrong side, aligning it with the marked line, and press it flat. Hand baste the sleeve hem allowance, keeping your stitches about 0.1–0.2 cm from the edge.
Marking Bottom Hem
p. 5- On the inside of the shirt, mark a line 3 cm up from the bottom edge.
20. Press sleeve hem
p. 10- Press the sleeve hem allowance up by 3 cm.
Press Hem Allowances
p. 12- Press the 3.0 cm hem allowance for the bottom of the sweater and sleeves to the wrong side.
Hemming Cardigan and Preparing Sleeve Casing
p. 12- Sew down the hem allowance at the bottom edge and press flat. On the folded sleeve allowance, mark a 2.0–2.5 cm wide opening for inserting elastic. Stitch the sleeve hem allowances, leaving the marked opening unstitched, and press.
Inserting Elastic and Closing Openings
p. 13- Measure and cut elastic tape into two pieces. Insert the elastic into the sleeve casing, overlap the ends by 1.0 cm, and secure them by hand or with a zigzag stitch. Sew the pocket opening from the front side, then press the seam flat.
Pressing the sleeve hem
p. 8- Press the hem allowance of the sleeve up by 2.0 cm.
