Strap preparation
The process of folding, stitching, turning, and topstitching the shoulder straps.
Where it is used
1. Finish Straps 005
p. 4- Fold each strap in half lengthwise with the right side in, sew along the long edges, turn right side out. Press the seam open using a slanting stitch, smoothing allowances. Optionally topstitch. Secure one short edge of the strap by stitching or hand-sewing with a hidden stitch. Press.
9. Position and secure straps
p. 5- Position and secure the straps on the back (refer to the strap placement on patterns 002) with the open edge of the straps facing the top edge of the back.
Turn and Press Straps
p. 3- Trim the seam allowances down to 0.5 cm. Turn the straps right side out using a small hook or a thread and needle. Press. Position the seam with the roll turned slightly to one side of the straps.
Stitch Strap Pieces
p. 3- Place the strap pieces right sides together, matching the long edge. Pin in place or baste. Stitch on the machine with a 1 cm seam allowance, backstitching at the ends.
Baste Straps to Upper Front
p. 4- On the right side of the upper front piece, position the strap pieces using the notches as guides. Pin in place. Stitch a temporary guide seam on the machine. Sew the line 0.7 cm from the raw edge.
Fit and Thread Straps
p. 5- Do a fitting and decide on the strap length. Thread the straps through the openings left at the back and pin them in place.
Secure Straps to Seam
p. 5- Reach between the layers of the top to the seam. Sew on the straps. Trim the strap seam allowances down to 0.5 cm.
Step 1: Pinning front strap edges
p. 3- Pin the edges of the integrated strap on the front piece together, aligning the edges and placing the right sides facing each other.
Step 5: Pressing strap seam allowances
p. 4- Press the seam allowance for the strap edge on the front piece to one side. And on the lining—press it to the opposite side.
Step 19: Pinning second strap
p. 8- Pin the armhole edges and the edges of the second strap together, stopping at the beginning of the stitching line.
10. Strap Preparation
p. 11- Sew the strap. Allowance 0.7 cm.
