Bias tape
Narrow strips of fabric cut on the bias, used to bind and finish raw edges cleanly.
Where it is used
Prepare Bias Strips - Step 2
p. 4- Next, fold the raw edges in toward the pressed center line, then fold the bias strip in half again so the finished width is 1 cm. Pin in place. Mark the reference points on the right side of the bias strips using tailor’s chalk or soap.
Applying Neckline Tape
p. 2- Apply the bias fusible tape along the neckline edges.
Basting Twill Tape to Collar
p. 3- Finish one of the long edges of the collar neckline with twill tape. To do this, wrap the edge with the folded tape and baste it in place using hand stitches.
Position Twill Tape
p. 8- Preshrink the twill tape (or bias tape). Place the twill tape with the wrong side against the collar attachment seam allowance.
Stitch Twill Tape Second Edge
p. 9- Stitch the second edge of the twill tape, sewing at a distance of 0.1 – 0.2 cm from the edge. Start and finish the stitching exactly at the placket attachment seam. Direct the placket attachment seam allowances towards the plackets. You can baste first.
Baste Twill Tape
p. 9- Baste the other side of the tape 0.1 cm from the edge.
Trimming Tape
p. 11- From the wrong side, trim the excess width of the bias binding/tape close to the stitching line.
