Clipping curves

Making small cuts into curved seam allowances to allow the fabric to stretch and lay flat when turned.

Clipping Neckline Allowance

  1. Trim, stopping 3-4 cm short of the center back (as shown in the photo). Place clips/notches on the allowance, stopping 0.2 cm short of the stitching line.

Pattern Transfer and Cutting

  1. Transfer the pattern pieces onto the fabric, making sure to follow the grainline and any pattern alignment. Cut out the required pieces from both the main fabric and the lining according to the pattern. Mark the darts and transfer all guide marks, making 3mm snips through all layers of fabric, keeping them symmetrical. Make snips at the center back. If you're fusing entire pieces, be sure to add all markings and guide snips after fusing.

Trimming Bottom Facing Curves

  1. For the curved section at the bottom of the facings, trim the seam allowances down to 0.5 cm and clip the corners of the allowance.
